Welcome Home, Now It’s Time to Unpack

You’ve finally reached your new home but before you relax, it’s time to unpack. Many times we unpack what we need right away and then live out of boxes for weeks, or even months after a move. The stress from a move can be exhausting and after packing and hauling your goods across town or even the country, you likely just want to relax. However, you truly won’t be able to relax until your new home is in order and everything is in its place.
We recommend unpacking by order of importance and completing each room as you go. This approach may seem daunting at first, but will definitely help you get settled in and ensure you have less miscellaneous items left in boxes months after your move.
When it comes to the order of which rooms to unpack first, you will want to begin with your bedroom. This way you have a place to retreat to after a long day of moving and unpacking. Next, you should move to the kitchen, followed by your bathroom. Once you have the essentials covered, you can tackle your main living space and any lesser used areas. The dining room, guest bedroom, or formal living area may have served as staging areas but can now be unpacked!
While you unpack, it is often best to follow the rule that: “Everything has its place”. If you don’t have a place for an item, it should return to its box until you do. This will help to ensure that your new home stays organized. Once you have finished unpacking the necessities, start unpacking the boxes that include your books and keepsakes, collections, art, and décor. Once these items are unpacked, putting your new home together will not only be easy but it should be lots of fun. Once you complete your unpacking, you should feel refreshed, relaxed and at home.
