When the time comes for you to move and you are choosing a moving and storage company, it is likely that your initial research will start with a simple Google or Bing search.  You should never book a move solely based on the prices given online or over the phone. Aside from research online and getting written estimates, asking friends and family members for referrals is a great way to start your research. Before settling on a company you want to work with keep these three things in mind.

Reputation
Just because a company has an appealing website, it does not necessarily mean that the company is reputable. Be sure to do your research and check the company’s reviews on different consumer website. By doing this you can avoid rouge movers. The vast majority of moving companies are reputable. However, there are a few “bad eggs” out there that spoil how consumers perceive the industry as a whole.

Certifications
In order for companies to move and store certain products they must be certified for that products. For example, in order for a company to store home goods for a soldier their storage warehouse must be military approved. In order to be approved the company must go through extensive inspections to gain certification. Before you choose a moving and storage company make sure they are qualified and certified to move and store your belongings.

Schedule Appointments
Although there are several estimating tools online, you should never accept an estimate until a representative from the company has been to your home and surveyed the items you wish to move and/or store. An in-home estimate allows the moving consultant to complete a realistic assessment of all the goods. In-home estimates also eliminated price increases and disputes.

Conducting a simple web browser search is a good start, but more information needs to be collected in order to select the right company for you. If you have any questions or want to schedule an appointment click the link below.
